While a student at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and trying to improve my health, I created TOP IT seed mix. As a busy mom and student, I was looking for ways to increase my energy and build muscle. Despite lifting weights for years, I still did not feel strong. Then during a lesson on macronutrients, I realized my mostly plant-based vegetarian lifestyle was deficient in protein and healthy fats.

A list of high-protein plant-based foods led me to add hemp seed on top of many of my meals. Then I added a couple different seeds and some sea salt, mixed it into a jar and started sprinkling it on everything from salads and avocado toast to yogurt parfaits and oatmeal. I was less hungry. I increased my lifting weight. And I felt awesome. This was such a simple and delicious way to layer on more nutrients to the meals I was already making. I shared it with my family and friends and now I am sharing it with you. I hope you enjoy TOP IT seed mix as much as I do!

The TOP IT seed mix Story

One of my favorite quotes is from author Michael Pollan. He said “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

Eat food - Food provides nourishment for our mind, body, and spirit. It can be love, joy, and connection. And we need it for survival, so why not make the best of it?

Not too much - Being conscious of how we treat our bodies and our planet. That we don’t do too much harm with the production and consumption of food.

Mostly plants - There are many research-backed reasons to eat a plant-based diet (meaning a diet that leads with plants, not processed foods and meats, but not necessarily limiting them all either). Plant-based diets improve gut health and may reduce the risk of chronic inflammatory diseases among many other ailments.

TOP IT seed mix aligns with these values as a whole food product that supports a healthy plant-based diet.

The Original TOP IT seed mix includes:

Hemp seeds for protein, healthy fats, and additional vitamins and minerals such as B vitamins, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, iron, and zinc. In fact, hemp seeds are one of the only plant-based sources of complete protein.
